AOC campaign reported luxury hotel stays during Sanders tour, filings show

Campaign finance records reveal Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spent over $10,000 on high-end accommodations while touring with Senator Bernie Sanders.

According to Fox News, the progressive Democrat's campaign made substantial payments to multiple luxury hotels during their "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, which has drawn criticism for apparent contradictions with their message. The tour, which covered 20 states and included 34 rallies, attracted more than 300,000 attendees.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) documents show significant expenditures at premium establishments across several states. The spending patterns have raised questions about the consistency between the campaign's messaging and its operational choices.

Luxury Accommodations Raise Ethical Questions

The most notable hotel expense was $3,508.92 at the Vdara Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, coinciding with a March 20 rally. The upscale property, situated on the famous Las Vegas Strip, hosted AOC just before she delivered speeches criticizing wealth inequality.

The Leo Kent Hotel in Tucson received $3,165.76 from the campaign during their Arizona stop. The boutique high-rise accommodation represents another example of premium spending during the nationwide tour.

Campaign records also show a $3,445.59 payment to the Asher Adams Hotel in Salt Lake City. This stay aligned with one of the many rallies where both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez spoke against corporate influence in politics.

Private Transportation Adds to Controversy

Beyond luxury hotels, the campaign's travel arrangements have drawn additional scrutiny. Both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez utilized private jet transportation for their West Coast campaign events.

The decision to fly private while advocating against excessive wealth has sparked debate among political observers. Critics argue that such travel choices conflict with the tour's fundamental message about fighting economic inequality.

The campaign's transportation expenses add another layer to the growing discussion about consistency in progressive messaging. Many supporters and critics alike are questioning the alignment between words and actions.

Campaign Spending Patterns Emerge

Additional FEC filings revealed payments to several other upscale properties including CitizenM in California and the Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Virginia. These expenses form part of a broader pattern of high-end accommodation choices.

The Hotel Vermont and Hotel Renegade in Idaho also received significant payments from the campaign. The consistent selection of luxury properties has become a focal point for those questioning the campaign's spending decisions.

The total hotel expenses represent a substantial portion of the campaign's travel budget. Financial records indicate a preference for premium accommodations throughout the nationwide tour.

Impact on Progressive Message

The revelations about luxury spending have created challenges for the campaign's core message about fighting economic inequality. The contrast between rhetoric and spending choices has become a talking point for political opponents.

The "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, while successful in drawing large crowds, now faces questions about its operational decisions. The campaign's choice of accommodations has sparked discussions about authenticity in progressive politics.

AOC's office has not yet responded to requests for comment about the spending decisions. The silence has left supporters and critics debating the implications for future progressive campaigns focused on economic justice.
