Gisele Bündchen ended her marriage to Tom Brady with three blunt words from the stars that left the NFL legend heartbroken, a new book claims.
A forthcoming biography lays out the final break in plain terms. An insider close to Brady told author Lars Anderson that the supermodel, long into astrology, checked the stars one day and delivered the verdict that closed their 13-year marriage.
“One day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible,’” the insider said. Anderson adds, “And just like that, she was done.” Page Six reported the account from the book, obtained by Daily Mail, with the volume set for release Sept. 29. Reps for both Brady and Bündchen were not immediately available for comment.
The words did not come out of nowhere. Bündchen had pressed Brady to walk away from football for years so he could show up at home for their children and give her room for her own career and rest.
After the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons for Brady’s sixth Super Bowl title in 2017, Bündchen rushed onto the field. She allegedly asked, “Would now be the perfect time to retire?” She repeated the question later that day. Brady’s alleged reply was blunt: “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.”
Weeks afterward the couple vacationed with Brady’s former Michigan teammate Jay Feely. Bündchen wanted Feely to lean on Brady to quit. Feely later told Sports Illustrated he found her “dead serious,” yet he advised Brady, “Play as long as you want.”
High-profile splits often follow the same arc of last-ditch talks and hard stops, as other celebrity couples have discovered when reconciliation attempts collapse.
After the Patriots lost the 2018 Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, Anderson notes that Bündchen put her demands in a serious handwritten note. She needed Brady present at home instead of answering a buzzing phone or replaying games in his head. She needed more help with the kids, a few mornings to sleep in, and time for her own work.
A former teammate and pal of Brady told Anderson the lifestyle itself was grinding her down. She was “a bigger international star” growing “tired of living” on his schedule. The friend described Brady rising at dawn, thinking all day about a game foreign to his wife, and hitting bed by nine. He could not eat out without a scene. “Everything he puts in his mouth tastes like s, t. The whole lifestyle had to be getting tiresome for Gisele.”
Brady stayed with the Patriots through 2019, then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and played two more seasons. He announced retirement in February 2022. A month later he reversed course.
“I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady posted on X at the time. “That time will come. But it’s not now.”
Bündchen offered public support but was privately upset. Anderson set down; she briefly fled to Costa Rica, leaving Brady distraught. Coaches and teammates later recalled that he lost weight, looked distracted, and questioned the unretirement decision once training camp began.
Personal fallout after a public breakup can hit hard and fast, much as other stars have described in the months following their own splits.
The New York Post adds further detail from Anderson’s reporting. Brady tried a Bahamas trip in August 2022 to salvage the marriage and missed 11 days of Buccaneers camp. It failed. When he returned, offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said Brady “was an empty shell of himself.” “There was no joy. Everything was hard work.” Anderson notes Brady “remained utterly captivated by Gisele, still lost in the enchantment of her,” even as he realized during a July 28 practice injury to a teammate that coming back had been a horrible decision that only deepened the trouble at home.
On Oct. 28, 2022, the couple announced the divorce and said their focus was their children, Benjamin and Vivian. Bündchen posted on Instagram: “We have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”
Reconciliation windows close for good in many public marriages, just as they did for other well-known pairs who tried and then moved on.
Breitbart reported at the time that the pair had completed short, confidential divorce documents after nearly a month of living apart and a year of turmoil made worse by Brady’s return to the Buccaneers against Bündchen’s wish for more family time. The outlet noted Brady’s then-estimated $250 million net worth, Bündchen’s $400 million, and $26 million in shared real estate.
Bündchen, now 46, remarried jujitsu instructor Joaquim Valente in December 2025; the couple has a 1-year-old son. Brady, 49, has since been linked to model Irina Shayk and internet personality Alix Earle. Large financial stakes and drawn-out fights mark other big-money divorces, including cases that drag on for years and leave lasting damage.
Brady built a career on reading defenses and delivering under pressure. At home the reads never matched, and three words ended the drive for good.
