Support for Trump's Policies Reveals Deep Partisan Lines

A new survey explores American voters' stance on former President Donald Trump's key policy positions ahead of the 2024 election season.

According to Breitbart News, an Economist/YouGov poll indicates that several of Trump's signature policies, including border wall funding and restrictions on birthright citizenship, receive more support than opposition among U.S. adults.

The survey, conducted from November 23-26, 2024, among 1,590 U.S. adults with a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent, reveals particularly strong backing for policies addressing immigration and transgender athletes in women's sports.

These findings suggest that Trump's policy positions maintain significant resonance with the American electorate.

Border Security Measures Draw Substantial Public Support

The poll demonstrates robust support for Trump's border security initiatives, with 57 percent of respondents favoring additional funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Of those in favor, 37 percent expressed strong support for the measure. The policy garnered overwhelming backing from Republicans at 89 percent, while a majority of independents at 52 percent also endorsed the proposal.

On the issue of birthright citizenship, 45 percent of respondents supported ending automatic citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants in the United States, while 42 percent opposed the policy. The partisan divide was evident, with 66 percent of Republicans supporting the measure and 61 percent of Democrats opposing it.

The survey also explored attitudes toward drilling on federal lands, finding 46 percent support versus 35 percent opposition. While Republicans strongly backed the policy at 73 percent, Democrats showed majority opposition at 54 percent, with independents equally divided at 40 percent for each position.

Transgender Sports Policy Generates Bipartisan Agreement

The most unified response came on the question of transgender athletes in women's sports, with 61 percent of respondents supporting a ban and only 25 percent opposing it. Half of the supporters indicated they "strongly" backed the restriction.

Democratic voters showed an even split on this issue, with 40 percent supporting and 40 percent opposing the ban. Republican support reached 87 percent, while independents backed the policy at 56 percent. The survey revealed high confidence in Trump's commitment to implement this policy, with 70 percent believing he would follow through on the ban.

Corporate tax policy proved more contentious, with 41 percent opposing Trump's proposed reduction of the corporate tax rate from 21 percent to 15 percent, while 40 percent supported it. The divide largely followed partisan lines, with 64 percent of Trump 2024 voters supporting the cut and 70 percent of Harris 2024 voters opposing it.

Survey Points To Evolving American Political Landscape

These findings suggest significant public alignment with several key Trump policy positions, particularly on issues related to immigration control and gender in sports. The data indicates that some of Trump's most controversial proposals from his previous presidency continue to resonate with a substantial portion of the American electorate.

The poll's results demonstrate that while partisan divisions remain strong on most issues, certain policies, like restrictions on transgender athletes in women's sports, have achieved broader consensus across political lines. This could have important implications for campaign messaging and policy priorities in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
