Accused assassin Tyler Robinson’s online posts, bullet engravings were revealed

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a university event in Utah, and investigators say the suspect left a disturbing trail of online messages and engraved bullets that pointed to his plans.

Authorities arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, who allegedly carried out the shooting after posting detailed messages online and preparing bullets inscribed with references to internet culture and anti-fascist themes, as the Daily Mail reports.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University when Robinson, driving a gray Dodge Challenger, arrived and opened fire. Witnesses reported that Kirk, known for his MAGA-aligned political views, was addressing attendees when the attack occurred. The incident left the conservative figure, a father of two, dead at the scene.

Engravings on bullets raise alarms

According to authorities, Robinson customized bullets with engravings that blended online references with political symbolism. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that one bullet was marked with the phrase, “Notices bulge OwO, what’s this?”

Another bullet bore the words “Hey Fascists! Catch” alongside symbols linked to anti-fascism. Investigators also said additional engravings included a phrase from the Italian resistance song “Bella Ciao,” as well as a message intended to mock and provoke.

Cox stated that Robinson had openly talked with a family member about Kirk’s visit to the campus. “In the conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU,” Cox said. He added that Robinson and others discussed disliking Kirk’s views, with Cox recalling, “They talked about why they didn’t like [Kirk] and the viewpoints that he had.”

Discord messages linked to attack

Authorities believe Robinson used a Discord chatroom to discuss his plans leading up to the attack. In the messages, he reportedly described the engraved bullets and talked about the themes behind them. After the shooting, Robinson allegedly wrote that he needed to recover a rifle from a hidden drop point.

Investigators said Robinson detailed how he had concealed the weapon in a bush, wrapped in a towel, to avoid immediate detection. These online postings provided a clearer picture of the premeditated nature of the attack, according to law enforcement sources. Robinson’s father and a minister later turned him in after recognizing his image released by officials. This cooperation proved critical in bringing the suspect into custody within a short window of time.

FBI capture praised

FBI Director Kash Patel described the arrest as a milestone, calling it a “historic” capture. Robinson was located and detained within 33 hours of the shooting, a speed Patel said demonstrated effective coordination across agencies.

At the time of the attack, Robinson was wearing a maroon T-shirt, light shorts, a black hat, and light shoes, according to eyewitnesses. He lived in Washington, Utah, in a house valued at around $600,000, roughly 260 miles from where the incident took place in Orem.

In a family setting prior to the incident, Robinson allegedly said Kirk was “full of hate and spreading hate.” This remark was recalled by relatives during the investigation into his motives.

Trump wants death penalty

Following the assassination, President Donald Trump issued strong comments regarding Robinson’s fate. He expressed support for the death penalty, describing Kirk as the “finest person.” The remarks reflected the level of grief among Kirk’s allies and the broader conservative community.

The case has also drawn significant attention for its blending of internet culture with politically motivated violence. The engraved bullets, in particular, stood out as an unusual and chilling detail in an already high-profile tragedy.

As authorities prepare for upcoming proceedings, the role of online platforms like Discord in enabling conversations about violent acts remains a key area of scrutiny. Investigators are continuing to piece together Robinson’s activities in the days and hours leading up to the shooting.

Kirk’s death has left a profound impact on his supporters and family. As a father and prominent political figure, his loss has intensified debates about security at public events and the growing intersection of internet subcultures with real-world violence.
