Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has poured millions into pro-Trump political groups despite his turbulent departure from the administration earlier this year.
According to Newsmax, Federal Election Commission filings show that on June 27, Musk donated $5 million each to MAGA Inc. and the two major Republican congressional super PACs—the Senate Leadership Fund and the Congressional Leadership Fund. Additionally, he contributed approximately $27 million to AMERICA PAC, an organization he established in 2024 to support Trump's presidential campaign.
This latest round of donations comes after Musk had already invested over $250 million to help secure Trump's reelection in 2024, prior to joining the administration as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, where he served until May.
After leaving his position in the Trump administration, Musk publicly voiced criticism toward the president on multiple occasions. His criticisms specifically targeted Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill initiative and included allegations that Trump had concealed connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite these public disagreements, the two appeared to reconcile their differences in June. Musk acknowledged that he "went too far" in some of his remarks about the president, while Trump responded by stating he harbored "no hard feelings" toward his former adviser.
The timing of these substantial financial contributions is particularly noteworthy as they occurred approximately one week before Musk announced his intention to launch the America Party.
President Trump did not respond favorably to Musk's announcement about forming a new political party. He took to social media to express his disappointment with the tech mogul's decision.
"I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks," Trump wrote in his characteristic all-caps style. He further criticized the concept of third parties in American politics.
The president added that Musk "even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States — The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS."
Musk's financial support for Trump has been substantial throughout recent years. Before these latest contributions, he had already invested a quarter billion dollars in efforts to help secure Trump's reelection in the 2024 presidential race.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO's political involvement increased dramatically when he joined the Trump administration as the head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency. His tenure in this position lasted until May 2025, when he departed under circumstances that appeared contentious at the time.
Despite the publicly visible friction between the two high-profile figures, Musk's continued financial backing suggests a more complex relationship than their public exchanges might indicate.
The relationship between Musk and Trump represents an interesting dynamic in American politics, where personal disagreements don't necessarily translate to withdrawal of financial support. This continued backing comes at a time when Musk is simultaneously pursuing his own political ambitions.
Musk's decision to launch the America Party while maintaining financial support for Trump and Republican congressional committees creates an unusual political positioning. It suggests he may be hedging his political bets rather than making a clean break from established party politics.
The significant sums involved—totaling $42 million in the latest round of donations alone—demonstrate Musk's commitment to remaining a major player in the political arena, regardless of his personal relationship with the president.
