Meghan Markle's Netflix series struggles to gain viewers

Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix venture, With Love, Meghan, has struggled to gain traction, failing to break into the platform’s top 300 shows.

According to Breitbart News, the cooking and lifestyle series, which debuted on March 4, has garnered only 5.3 million global views. Ranking at number 383, the show has been outperformed by hundreds of other titles, including older series such as Suits, where Markle starred before her marriage to Prince Harry.

The series, which also serves as a promotional platform for Markle’s lifestyle brand "As Ever," faced stiff competition. Popular shows like Adolescence, which amassed 145 million views, and Missing You, with 58 million views, significantly overshadowed Markle’s project. Even the canceled murder mystery The Residence managed to draw 33 million viewers in comparison.

Documentary underperforms alongside series

Adding to the challenges faced by the Sussexes, their documentary Polo fared even worse, ranking 3,436 out of approximately 7,000 shows on Netflix. The documentary, which received a mere 500,000 views globally, performed on par with re-runs of the nine-year-old cartoon He-Man: Masters of the Universe.

The underwhelming performance of Polo further highlights the struggles of the couple’s content under their $100 million Netflix deal. In contrast, other Netflix originals, such as Department Q, achieved 25 million views in six months, showcasing the disparity in audience reception.

Sources have indicated that Netflix executives are concerned about the reception of Markle’s series. Despite debuting in the platform’s Top Ten worldwide, With Love, Meghan dropped out of the rankings after just six days. Viewer feedback has reportedly prompted discussions about potential edits to improve future episodes.

Hate-watching and social media backlash

The series has also faced backlash on social media, with many viewers reportedly tuning in to mock its content. Clips of awkward or "cringeworthy" moments have been widely circulated online, sparking further criticism. As noted by Breitbart News, the show was described by some as "next-level derangement and narcissism," fueling its negative reception.

An insider from Netflix commented on the series’ lack of success, stating, “It’s not a runaway success.” Another source suggested that the reviews have caused concern among Netflix’s advertising team, as they evaluate the show’s overall impact on the platform’s brand.

Despite the criticism, there are indications that a third season of With Love, Meghan may already be in the works. However, this does not necessarily mean that Netflix has renewed Markle’s contract. According to sources, the episodes were filmed back-to-back, allowing for cost-effective production and potential edits based on viewer feedback.

Netflix deal under scrutiny

The Sussexes’ $100 million deal with Netflix has come under increased scrutiny as their projects fail to resonate with audiences. While the couple initially generated significant media attention with their partnership, the lackluster performance of their content has raised questions about the long-term viability of their collaboration with the streaming giant.

The couple’s earlier projects, including their documentary series Harry & Meghan, also faced mixed reviews. However, the poor reception of With Love, Meghan and Polo has amplified concerns about their ability to deliver commercially successful content.

Despite these setbacks, Markle and Prince Harry continue to explore new opportunities within the entertainment industry. Whether they can turn their fortunes around remains to be seen, as Netflix reportedly evaluates the future of their partnership.

Sussexes face uncertain future in streaming

Meghan Markle’s With Love, Meghan has struggled to find its footing, ranking far below expectations and failing to capture a significant audience. The series, which aimed to combine cooking, lifestyle, and brand promotion, has been overshadowed by more popular Netflix titles.

The underperformance of both With Love, Meghan and Polo has raised questions about the couple’s $100 million Netflix deal. As streaming competition intensifies, the Sussexes face mounting pressure to deliver content that resonates with viewers.

While a third season of Markle’s series may be in the pipeline, its success will likely depend on significant improvements and a more favorable reception from audiences. For now, the couple’s future in streaming remains uncertain.
