Melania Trump demands retraction from Hunter Biden over comments

First lady Melania Trump has issued a $1 billion legal notice to Hunter Biden over allegations he made connecting her to Jeffrey Epstein.

According to Fox News, Alejandro Brito, the first lady's litigation attorney, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Biden and his lawyer Abbe Lowell on August 6. The letter demands immediate retraction of statements Biden made during a Channel 5 interview with Andrew Callaghan that was posted to YouTube in early August.

Biden claimed in the video interview titled "Hunter Biden Returns" that Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump. He stated that "Epstein introduced Melania to Trump" and described the connections as "wide and deep."

Legal Action Threatens Financial Consequences

Brito warned that failure to comply would force Melania Trump to pursue all available legal remedies to recover what he described as "overwhelming financial and reputational harm." The attorney gave Biden until August 7, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. EST to issue retractions and apologies or face potential litigation.

The letter specifically demanded that Biden immediately retract his "false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements" made about the first lady. Brito also required Biden to issue a public apology in a manner as conspicuous as the original publication.

Sources close to the matter told Fox News Digital that Biden did not comply with the deadline set by Trump's legal team. The same sources alleged that Biden and his representatives leaked the legal letter to a friendly reporter, suggesting deep concern about potential liability.

Media Outlets Issue Retractions

The Daily Beast previously retracted an article making similar claims about Melania Trump's connection to Epstein after receiving legal challenges from her attorneys. The publication posted an editor's note apologizing for confusion and misunderstanding while completely removing the original article from their website.

Democratic strategist James Carville also issued a public apology after repeating similar allegations on his Politics War Room podcast. Carville opened his latest episode with a legal note, stating he received a letter from Melania Trump's lawyer and decided to remove the controversial content.

The lawyer's letter indicated that Biden's statements were based on claims made by "serial fabulist Michael Wolff" whose allegations were published by The Daily Beast before their retraction. Brito argued that Biden maliciously republished false information despite The Daily Beast's withdrawal of the story.

Claims Labeled As Defamatory Content

Brito described Biden's video statements as "extremely salacious" and noted they had been widely disseminated across various digital platforms. The attorney claimed the false statements had reached tens of millions of people worldwide through republication by media outlets and political commentators with large social media followings.

The legal notice accused Biden of lacking any viable defense against the reputational and financial harm caused to the first lady. Brito suggested the timing of the video publication demonstrated "actual malice" given what he called the plain falsity of the statements.

The letter also directed Biden not to destroy or alter any evidence related to the false claims, including communications about Melania Trump and documentation of his sources. This preservation notice covers both physical and electronic records that might be relevant to potential litigation.

First Lady's Team Responds Publicly

Nick Clemens, an aide to the first lady, stated that Melania Trump's attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions by those spreading what he called "malicious, defamatory falsehoods." He referenced the first lady's bestselling book "Melania" as containing the true account of how she met President Trump.

Melania Trump shared screenshots on social media showing Carville's apology transcript and a crossed-out image of his podcast episode titled "The Epstein connection: Trump & Melania." These posts appeared to celebrate the successful legal pressure that resulted in the retraction.

Neither Hunter Biden nor his attorney Abbe Lowell responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital regarding the legal notice. The Channel 5 interview platform also did not provide a response when contacted about the controversial statements made during Biden's appearance.
