Musk discusses influx of social security numbers given to non-citizens

Elon Musk's startling revelation about social security numbers brings new scrutiny to the immigration system under the current administration.

According to Breitbart, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk disclosed that approximately 2.1 million non-citizens obtained social security numbers in 2024, a dramatic increase from previous years.

The announcement came during a conference where Musk appeared alongside Antonio Gracias, CEO of Valor Equity Partners. Their investigation into the social security system revealed a significant jump from 270,000 non-citizens receiving social security numbers in 2021 to 2.1 million in 2024.

Immigration Policy Changes Drive Surge

The substantial increase stems from policy modifications implemented by the administration that streamlined the process for migrants entering the country. These changes allowed individuals to receive social security numbers through various pathways without rigorous verification procedures.

The current system enables migrants to enter through official ports or by approaching border patrol officers directly. Officials can then process their cases as administrative offenses rather than criminal violations.

Immigration courts face severe backlogs with only 700 judges available to handle approximately 5.5 million cases. The average wait time for court appearances has stretched to six years.

Social Security Number Application Process

Antonio Gracias detailed the process during the conference, explaining how migrants can obtain social security numbers after entering the country. His insights came from working closely with social security administration employees.

Current procedures allow individuals to apply for work documents using Form 765, which leads to receiving Form 766. Subsequently, the social security administration automatically mails social security numbers without conducting interviews or requiring identification.

Gracias emphasized that his revelations were not politically motivated, citing his own family's immigration background from Spain and his support for legal immigration pathways.

System Assessment Uncovers Inefficiencies

The DOGE investigation began with a comprehensive mapping of the social security system to identify potential fraud and inefficiencies. The effort received support from numerous social security administration employees.

These employees took considerable risks to expose systemic issues within the organization. Their cooperation proved instrumental in uncovering the dramatic increase in non-citizen social security number issuance.

The investigation's findings suggest significant changes in how the system processes and distributes social security numbers to non-citizens compared to previous years.

Government efficiency investigation yields unexpected results

The Department of Government Efficiency, under Elon Musk's leadership, uncovered a dramatic surge in non-citizen social security number issuance during their systematic review of federal operations. The investigation revealed that 2.1 million non-citizens received social security numbers in 2024, compared to just 270,000 in 2021. These findings emerged from a broader examination of potential fraud and inefficiencies in the social security system, with cooperation from administration employees who provided crucial insights into the streamlined process that enables migrants to obtain social security numbers without traditional verification procedures.
