Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has turned a routine airport escort into a full-blown spectacle with a profanity-laced rant that’s got everyone talking.
On a recent Thursday at Charleston International Airport, Mace, a 47-year-old Republican gubernatorial candidate, unleashed a verbal storm on police officers tasked with ensuring her safety, drawing shock from staff and criticism from political rivals, as the New York Post reports.
The incident kicked off when officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department awaited Mace’s arrival at the airport curb, expecting her in a white BMW that never showed.
Instead, Mace rolled up 15 minutes behind schedule in a BMW of a different color, as later confirmed by security footage, catching the officers off guard.
Within moments of her arrival at the TSA Known Crewmember entrance, officers encountered a “very irate” Mace, who didn’t hold back her frustration as they began escorting her to gate B-8.
Her behavior escalated as she spoke loudly, peppering her tirade with profanity while either dictating into her phone or venting to someone about the situation, leaving bystanders stunned.
“She repeatedly stated we were ‘f–king incompetent’ and ‘this is no way to treat a f–king US representative,’” one of the officers reported, painting a picture of a public official seemingly unhinged by a routine delay.
Let’s be real -- while frustrations at airports are relatable, especially with today’s overzealous security protocols, berating law enforcement with such venom feels like a step too far for someone in Mace’s position.
Even an American Airlines gate agent stood in disbelief at her conduct, while a TSA supervisor noted that Mace dished out similar disrespect to several TSA agents during the ordeal.
The rant didn’t stop at the gate. Mace kept up her verbal barrage while the officers waited for her to board, turning a simple escort into a public embarrassment.
“Law enforcement and TSA agents show up every day to protect the public, and right now they’re not even getting paid. They deserve respect and appreciation. Not profanity,” said South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, a GOP primary rival, who didn’t mince words in condemning her actions.
Wilson’s critique hits a conservative sweet spot -- respect for those who serve should be non-negotiable, and Mace’s outburst risks alienating folks who value law and order over personal gripes.
Mace herself took to X to downplay the incident, posting with a sarcastic edge: “BREAKING NEWS: Nancy Mace arrives at the airport -- with no security. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Her campaign doubled down, framing the episode as a security concern rather than a tantrum, with director of operations Cameron Morabito stating, “We are forced to take the Congresswoman’s safety extremely seriously.” While safety is paramount, one wonders if cursing out the very people protecting you is the best way to ensure it.
As conservatives, we often rail against the progressive agenda’s disregard for decorum, but we must hold our own to the same standard -- Mace’s behavior, while perhaps fueled by genuine stress, undermines the dignity her office demands, and it’s a shame to see a promising leader stumble over something so avoidable.
