Shiloh Jolie Moves to Drop Brad Pitt's Surname on 18th Birthday

Shiloh Jolie, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has taken a decisive step on her 18th birthday.

Miss Jolie has officially requested to be legally recognized without the "Pitt" surname, adopting her mother's last name exclusively amid ongoing family disputes, as the Daily Mail reports.

Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that Shiloh Jolie submitted her request on Monday, May 27, marking her legal transition into adulthood by changing her name. This significant move happens against the backdrop of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s highly publicized divorce and custody battles.

Shiloh Files Name Change Request

In her legal filing, Shiloh, who recently turned 18, expressed the desire to drop "Pitt" from her surname, formally opting for the name Shiloh Jolie.  The court documents reflect a significant personal choice for Shiloh, amidst Brad Pitt's efforts to repair his relationship with her. Pitt, aged 60, has publicly expressed his wish to mend his "broken" bond with Shiloh.

Shiloh’s actions seem consistent with the practices of her siblings, Vivienne, Zahara, and Maddox, who also refrained from using "Pitt" as their surname, although they have not pursued legal name changes.

Complex Family Dynamics

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who share six children together have been embroiled in a contentious divorce since their separation in 2016.

An insider claims Angelina has largely managed the children’s involvement with Brad in the wake of the split. However, Shiloh’s newfound adulthood grants her autonomy over her decisions, including her relationship with her father. A close source indicated, “Now that Shiloh is 18, she can make up her own mind as far as how she wants her relationship with her father to develop.”

Hope for Rebuilding Relations

Brad Pitt remains hopeful about rekindling his connection with Shiloh. A source mentioned that everyone believes time will heal the rift created by the divorce.

Despite ongoing legal disputes, Brad reportedly wants to avoid regret and consistently prioritizes being present in his children's lives. "Brad would ‘never stand down’ from his duties as a father and will ‘always’ be just a phone call away if his children want to get a hold of him,” noted a second source.

As Shiloh legally steps into adulthood and begins making independent decisions, she is in a unique position to shape the nature of her future relationship with her father. "Angie can make them think differently, but the truth is, Brad always wants them to know that he has their back,” observed the second source.

Brad and Angelina's drawn-out divorce proceedings are reportedly approaching closure. It's said that Brad has conceded his pursuit of shared custody, with primary physical custody remaining with Angelina, and Brad retaining visitation rights.

The complexities of their family dynamics were further complicated by allegations from a former bodyguard, suggesting Angelina may have influenced the children’s perceptions of their father negatively. Brad, however, continually strives to be a supportive and available parent.

As Shiloh embarks on her journey as an adult with her newly requested name, the world watches to see how this shift will impact her relationship with her family, particularly with Brad. This pivotal moment marks not just a name change, but potentially the beginning of a renewed bond.
