Trump records TV ad for MAGA-backed Michael Alfonso ahead of Wisconsin primary

Reading Time: 3 minutes

President Trump is personally starring in a new television ad for 26-year-old congressional candidate Michael Alfonso in Wisconsin's 7th District, a rare move that underscores the weight of his endorsement less than a month before the August 11 primary.

Alfonso, a Republican running to replace Rep. Tom Tiffany, launched the district-wide TV spot this week with Trump speaking directly to camera and urging voters to back the young candidate. Tiffany is vacating the seat to run for governor, and the open-seat primary has drawn national attention in part because of Alfonso's family ties and Trump's early, forceful backing.

The ad opens with Trump delivering a direct appeal. Breitbart News reported that it features the president's full-throated endorsement, filmed specifically for the Alfonso campaign.

"He has my complete and total endorsement. Michael will stand up to the radical left communist in Congress. He's an unbelievable young man. Go vote for Michael Alfonso for Congress on August 11th. He will never let you down."

Trump first endorsed Alfonso in January, calling him a "MAGA Warrior" and a "young 'STAR.'" Recording an ad takes that support a step further, putting the president's face and voice on air across a congressional district in the final weeks before voters head to the polls.

Alfonso holds a 21-point lead in new poll

A TIPP Insights survey conducted for the League of American Workers between July 2 and July 12 found Alfonso leading the Republican primary field at 31 percent among 481 registered voters. His nearest competitor, U.S. Marine veteran Kevin Hermening, trailed at 10 percent, a 21-point gap.

Half the respondents said Trump's endorsement made them more likely to support Alfonso. In a crowded primary where name recognition can be decisive, that number suggests the president's backing is doing real work on the ground.

Trump's endorsements have carried extraordinary weight in 2026 Republican primaries. His perfect 118-0 record in GOP primaries this cycle has reshaped how candidates campaign and how voters evaluate the field.

Alfonso also posted a statement on X accepting the endorsement.

"It is my greatest honor to accept this endorsement from President Donald J. Trump. He is truly the greatest president of all time, and I pledge to be a steadfast MAGA warrior for the people of Wisconsin's 7th District."

At 26, Alfonso would become the youngest member of Congress

If Alfonso wins the primary and the general election, the 26-year-old would surpass Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Florida Democrat who currently holds the title of youngest member of Congress. That generational contrast, a young MAGA-aligned Republican displacing a progressive Democrat for the distinction, would carry its own symbolic weight.

Alfonso is the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, a connection that has given him visibility and fundraising reach beyond what most first-time congressional candidates enjoy. He raised roughly $3.4 million last quarter, a substantial haul for a House primary in a largely rural Wisconsin district.

Trump has increasingly used his endorsement power not just to reward loyalty but to shape the composition of the Republican caucus. His endorsement of Lindsey Graham earlier this year, tied directly to a key legislative vote, showed how deliberately the president links political support to policy outcomes.

The Wisconsin 7th is a solidly Republican district, which means the August 11 primary is effectively the main event. Whoever emerges will almost certainly head to Washington in January.

Money, momentum, and the Trump factor converge

Alfonso enters the final stretch of the primary with three advantages that are difficult for rivals to overcome simultaneously: a commanding poll lead, a $3.4 million war chest, and a sitting president willing to record a television ad on his behalf. Hermening, a Marine veteran, holds second place in the survey but sits 21 points back with less than a month to close the gap.

The endorsement dynamic within the GOP has shifted dramatically under Trump. His willingness to personally shape Republican appointments and nominations extends well beyond Senate races, reaching into House primaries where a single ad spot can redefine a contest.

No margin of error was published for the TIPP Insights poll, and the 481-voter sample is modest. But a 21-point lead, combined with a fundraising advantage and presidential airtime, paints a clear picture of where the race stands heading into August.

Trump has also used his political capital to advance legislation he views as aligned with his agenda, reinforcing the expectation that candidates who earn his endorsement will carry that agenda into office.

The primary is set for August 11. If the polling holds, Wisconsin's 7th District will send a 26-year-old Trump-endorsed candidate to Congress, and the Republican caucus will get a little younger and a lot more MAGA.
